Chapter Ten

The next morning Keith and Anne’s angel returned for them. They said their goodbyes with hugs of love; tears were shed by the fellowship at Melrose as the couple mounted the angels. They waved their final goodbyes to hear the praise chorus Anne had taught them, rising in the air to meet them, sending them on their way with joy in their hearts.

As Keith and Anne departed they heard their angels say they were not going back to Lincolnshire, their Heavenly Father had another assignment for them in Scotland. They soon touched down again, arriving in front of a very large red brick mansion; this was an unusual sight in Scotland as normally the houses were made of grey stone. To their surprise they where already inside the shield, but where were they?

“I wonder where we are” Anne said.

“Aboyne” the angel replied.

“Aboyne? I’ve never heard of it, where is that?” Anne asked.

“Royal Dee side” the angel said. Then the angels were gone, disappearing as in to a mist. In front of them the house seemed deserted, no sign or sound of animals or people. They walked up to the front door of the house and knocked on the door, there was no reply.

“Let’s walk round the back of the property.” Keith said. They knocked on the back door; there was still no response to their knocking. Keith tried the door knob, it turned easily in his hand and the door opened. They went in, Keith called out but there was no reply.

“I wonder where everyone is.” Anne said. They walked into the kitchen, there was no one there but when Anne felt at the kettle it was hot. Keith placed his finger to his lips. Anne nodded her head, she realised her husband was about to do something.

“I don’t think there is anyone here, so let’s leave.” Keith said.

“Yes I guess your right, it’s a pity when we know God sent us to help these people, but we can’t help if they are not here.” Moving towards the back door, they opened it to go out, when someone shouted down the stairs.

“Please don’t go, please stay, we need your help.” The young woman came running down the stairs.

“I’m sorry we were hiding away. I’m Jane Hawkswell; I live here along with eleven others.”

“Hello” Anne said. “This is my clever husband Keith who assumed you where hiding up stairs.” Keith shook Jane’s hand. He could see she looked very frightened.

“I’m sorry if we scared you, have you been having unwelcome visitors?” He asked her.

“We have in the past, though not recently; the shield seems to keep people out. How did you get in?” Jane wanted to know. Keith explained that only Christians could get through the shield, so they need not fear anymore unwelcome visitors.

As they had been talking several other people came down stairs including a man carrying a baby. Jane introduced him as her husband Edward. Jane led them into the lounge, it was a beautiful large room overlooking a lake.
